Solitaire

Solitaire is the card game that has filled more office afternoons than any other. Seven columns, one deck, four foundations, and a single rule: build each foundation from Ace to King in the same suit.

This version plays Klondike with a one-card draw. Click the stock to turn over a card, move cards between columns in descending order and alternating colours, and use the four foundations at the top right to lock in completed sequences. Any face-down card exposed by a move flips automatically.

Undo is available for the last forty moves, which is usually enough to recover from the one impulsive decision that ruined a good board.

How to play Solitaire

• Click the stock pile to draw a card into the waste.
• Move cards between columns in descending order with alternating colours.
• Place Aces on the foundations, then build each suit up to King.
• Clear all four foundations to win. Double-click a card to send it to a foundation.

Tips & strategy

Solitaire is a game of information. Every face-down card you expose is worth more than a tidy-looking column.

• Prioritise moves that flip a face-down card; hidden cards are the only real obstacle.
• Keep at least one empty column available for Kings — dumping a King into the first empty space often blocks a better move later.
• Do not move an Ace to a foundation if it is holding up a useful sequence; sometimes the column is worth more than the point.
• Build alternating colours evenly. A column that is all red cannot accept a black sequence later.
• Use the waste pile deliberately: cycle through it only after you have exhausted the tableau moves.
• Undo is a tool, not a failure. If a move leaves you stuck, revert and try the other option.
