Star Defender is a wave shooter in the classic arcade tradition: a formation of enemies slides across the top of the screen, drops lower each time it reaches the edge, and fires back while you try to clear it.

The tension comes from the descent. Every formation you fail to clear moves closer to your ship, and the firing rate increases with each wave. Staying alive is about prioritising the lowest enemies and never standing still.

Three lives, endless waves, and a score that rewards clearing formations quickly. Runs usually end when the screen gets crowded, not when the player runs out of nerve.

How to play Star Defender

  • Move your ship with the arrow keys, A and D, or by dragging on the screen.
  • Hold Space or tap to fire. Shots have a short cooldown.
  • Clear every enemy in the formation to advance to the next, faster wave.
  • You lose a life when an enemy bullet hits you or the formation reaches your ship.

Tips & strategy

Star Defender rewards target order more than raw accuracy. The formation is always moving, so the safest shot is usually the lowest enemy.

  • Shoot the lowest row first. Enemies near your ship are the ones that end runs, not the ones at the back.
  • Keep moving between shots. Standing still makes you an easy target for random enemy fire.
  • Clear one side of the formation early. A gap gives you a safe lane to dodge into when bullets get dense.
  • Aim while the formation turns. Enemies pause briefly at the edge, which is the easiest moment to line up.
  • Do not chase the last enemy to the corner — reposition to the centre first so the next wave starts with space.
  • Save your focus for wave four and beyond. The firing rate jumps sharply once the formation is close.
